Dr. Mohammed "Adeel" Khaleel is an ultra-minimally invasive and complex spinal surgeon with Apex Orthopedics. He completed his training at the Harvard Medical School Combined Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Fellowship in Spinal Surgery. Before moving into private practice, he was an Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He served as Director of Orthopedic Spine Surgery and Spinal Trauma at Parkland Memorial Hospital, one of the largest trauma centers in the world. He serve as the medical director of orthopedic spine surgery at Medical City Frisco and as a consultant spine surgeon at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

He specializes in ultra-minimally invasive spinal surgery, complex cervical spinal problems, cervical myelopathy, scoliosis and deformity, degenerative disc disease, artificial disc replacement, cervical and lumbar radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, thoracic disc herniation, sports spine injuries, spinal trauma, and post-operative spinal problems. He is focused on providing comprehensive and compassionate care to obtain the best outcomes for his patients and employs the latest technologies such as spinal navigation and microinvasive endoscopic techniques.

Excellence in Medical Education & Training

Dr. Khaleel attended the Leadership in Medicine Program at Union College/Albany Medical College in upstate New York after graduating valedictorian of his class at Allen High School. This program not only guaranteed him admission to medical school right after high school but also allowed him to concurrently earn his Master's in Health Administration while graduating summa cum laude with a double degree in Biology and Economics. His studies took him to Europe, where he studied various national health systems and their comparison with our own. While in medical school, he served as co-president of the school’s chapter of Physicians for Human Rights, and he remains committed to relief work and philanthropy.

He completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He honed his surgical skills and clinical acumen at the University Hospitals; Children’s Medical Center/Texas Scottish Rite Hospital; and Parkland Memorial Hospital. His training took him overseas to complete a traveling fellowship in Spine Surgery, Trauma, and Orthopedics at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the UK. Finally, he worked with both the Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Spine Teams as he completed the Harvard Medical School Combined Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. While in Boston, Dr. Khaleel was able to use his extensive training in Orthopedic Traumatology to help provide orthopedic care to the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings.

Innovator in Spinal Surgery & Education

With a strong commitment to staying at the leading edge of technology and treatment options, Dr. Khaleel has been involved in a number of journal articles, book chapters, instructional videos, and presentations. A major focus of this work has been minimally invasive spinal surgical techniques. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the North American Spine Society (NASS), the Texas Medical Association (TMA), the Dallas County Medical Society (DCMS), and the American Medical Association (AMA). Committed to education, he travels nationally and abroad to teach surgical techniques to other surgeons all over the world. His wife is an anesthesiologist at UT Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Memorial Hospital, and they have a young daughter and son.

Accomplished Orthopaedic Surgeon

He was born and raised in Dallas, Texas where he graduated from Lake Highlands High School. He was recruited to play football at Yale University where he received a degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology while earning All-Ivy League honors as an inside linebacker. He received his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he was also awarded a National Institutes of Health research grant and the C. Frank Webber Prize for his research on diabetes and orthopaedic injuries in college athletics. Dr. Estrera completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and received the Vert Mooney Award for Academic Achievement. During his residency he served as a specialist registrar on the joint arthroplasty service at Norfolk and Norwich University in England. He completed his adult joint reconstruction fellowship at the nationally recognized Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. While in fellowship he trained with world-renowned surgeons and he received specialized training in minimally invasive joint replacement and complex joint reconstruction. Dr. Estrera returned to Dallas to join the UT Southwestern faculty before starting Apex Orthopedics with Dr. Mohammed Khaleel. His wife Sarah practices Maternal Fetal Medicine at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital and they have two young boys named Sam and Charlie. Dr. Estrera is the 2007 World Hog Wrestling Champion.

Kenneth Estrera, MD is an adult joint reconstruction surgeon with Apex Orthopedics and serves as the Medical Director of Orthopedic Surgery at Medical City Frisco. Prior to joining Apex Orthopedics, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center where he served as Medical Director for the Joint Reconstruction Service. He specializes in hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive knee replacement, anterior hip replacement, partial knee replacement, and complex and revision joint reconstruction with additional expertise in the management of periprosthetic joint infections.

Dr. Nathan Boes, MD

Widely recognized as a top doctor in orthopedic sports medicine in Dallas and the United States, Dr Nathan Boes is a surgeon at Apex Orthopedics in Frisco, Texas, where he specializes in the treatment of shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee injuries. Dr Boes is board certified by the American Board Orthopedic Surgery and Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction. 

He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in biology and corporate finance. He completed medical school at Texas A&M College of Medicine in College Station. 

He trained in orthopedic surgery residency at UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospital, in Dallas, Texas, providing level one orthopedic care in the busiest emergency room in the country. 

Dr Boes completed a one-year fellowship in sports medicine at Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas. Where he took care of professional and recreational athletes including the Colorado Rockies Baseball, Clemson Tigers, Greenville Triumph, and Greenville Drive.

Dr Boes spent an additional six months in Auckland, New Zealand, learning international healthcare and caring for rugby and cricket athletes.  

As an educator of residents and fellows, Dr Boes publishes research, serves as a member of AAOS, AANA, AOSSM, ASES, and has interest in healthcare advocacy, spending time in Washington DC on Capital Hill for his profession and patients.
